Hawks Open Scrimmage Harlow Hawks would like to announce an Open Scrimmage session which is running through the season until end of April. Last season it used to be a Wednesday evening and was well attended but this time slot has been taken up by the Second team. The Open scrimmage session has moved to Monday evening's. The session is open to anyone that wishes to have a run out and is held at Harlow Sportcentre 9-10:30pm and costs £3 per session. Flanders Basketball Trophy - Belgium The 7th Annual Flanders Basketball Trophy takes place in August 2009 in Ghent, Belgium. The organisers are looking for teams in all age groups (seniors down to u14), as well as referees to attend. For further details check out the tournament website, www.flandersbasketballtrophy.com. Nominated 8’s At the pre-season meeting it was decided that for the 2008-09 season, all 1st Division clubs must submit the names of 8 players that shall only be eligible to play in the 1st Division. This would then allow some ‘bench players’ to get more time on court in a 2nd Division team. Several 1st Division clubs have not yet submitted their nominations, and I would ask that these clubs do so as soon as possible, even if they do not envisage any of their players playing for a 2nd Division team. HPL Player Registrations The form for submitting your HPL Player Registrations is now available on the web site, as discussed at the Pre-Season Meeting, all clubs MUST complete these details prior to the team playing its first game AND with enough time to allow Sean to input player license information. Until a player’s status is listed as ‘Registered’ they shall not be eligible to play in any HPL Game. In addition, all 1st Division teams (and clubs with teams in both divisions) must return to the same form to nominate the 8 players who shall only be eligible to play in the 1st Division. On-Line Forms As we are at the start of the new season, we have a number of new referees and club secretaries. Can I remind everyone that to access all of the pages on the web site, you must create your own account which can be done by clicking the ‘signup’ link underneath the login box. Once signed up to the web site, referees and club secretaries will have their access upgraded to enable entry to the HPL On-Line Forms and On-Line Handbook. A reminder to club secretaries and referees… Both teams MUST complete the Match Result & Nomination form within 24 hours of a fixture. The home team MUST complete the Match Statistics form within 7 days of a fixture. It is requested that referees also complete the Match Result & Nomination form. HPL Pre-Season Tournament 2008 The 2008 HPL Pre-season Tournament took place on Sunday 28th September at Wodson Park, Ware. The twelve teams contesting the competition this year were initially split into two groups of six for a preliminary group phase. The top two teams in each group then progressed to the semi finals with the remaining eight teams playing off in single knockout games to determine their final placings. After some of the closest games at the tournament in recent years, the four teams to reach the semi finals were Cambridge Cougars, Harlow Hawks 1, Luton Fliers 1 and Stevenage Gators. Harlow Hawks and Luton Fliers progessed to the final, with Luton emerging victorious in a hard fought game and claiming the first trophies of the new season. The final tournament placings were as follows - 1. Luton Fliers 1 2. Harlow Hawks 1 3. Stevenage Gators 4. Cambridge Cougars 5. Michaelians 6. Hatfield Magic 7. Ware Wolves 8. Ware Jokers 9. Enfield Mercs 10. North Herts Knights 11. Harlow Hawks 2 12. Luton Fliers 2 HBBA/HPL Pre-Season Meeting A new season approaches and as is traditional we will kick off the 2008/09 season with a general meeting and pre-season tournament. The meeting will take place at Wodson Park, Ware at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday 28th September. The tournament will follow from 3p.m. onwards. All clubs must send at least one, preferably two members to the pre-season meeting as this is where important changes to the HBBA/HPL Rules & Constitution will be discussed and voted upon. We will also be running through the new playing regulations for the coming season. In the downloads section, you can find the proposed amendments to the Rules & Constitution and the Tournament rules & schedule. IMPORTANT: Before the meeting all voting members should read and familiarise themselves specifically with the attached proposed amendments to the HBBA/HPL Rules & Constitution. Most of these were discussed at the AGM, but as so many people had not read them in advance we did not have time to vote on them all. Please specifically read Rule 3.1d Meeting Agenda:
Table Officials Course & Pre-Season Tournament The HBBA will be running a course for Table Officials prior to and during the Pre-Season Tournament on Sunday September 28th. It will run from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Wodson Park Sports Centre in Ware. If anyone in your club would like to attend please download the Application Form and send it to Sara Nash. Remember, every club must have at least one qualified table official. Also, all clubs are entitled to send one person to the course free of charge, as each club pays an annual £25 fee to subsidise the cost of a course. Other points: 1. It is planned that a referees course will be run at some point later in the season. 2. Shab Niaz intends to send several of the Harlow Hawks players to the course, so that they can help with officiating at the Junior Central Venue League he runs. If you are willing to offer up your club's free place for this season to him he would very much appreciate it and it would be a great support for the development of basketball in the region. Please can you let Shab know, by email, if you are happy for him to use your free place to subsidise his costs.
