Herts Cup and Plate Finals

It is that time of the season already - The Herts Cup and Plate Finals are upon us and take place this Sunday, March 1st.

First off on Sunday, the Cup Final takes place at Birchwood Leisure Centre, Hatfield at 6.15pm.

Straight afterwards, the Plate Final takes place at Francis Bacon School, St Albans at 8.15pm.

Admission to both of these events is free, and the venues are less than a ten minute drive apart for anyone who wants to come and watch both games. It would be good to see as many of you there as possible to support the teams.

The Herts Cup and Plate are some of the most keenly contested games of the season. Thirty-six group stage and knockout games will leave us with just four teams left in the competition come Friday evening when the last semi final is played.

The Cup Herts Final features Enfield Mercs against Luton Fliers 1 who beat Cambridge Cougars in the re-arranged semi-final last night for the right to face the Mighty Mercs in the final.

In the Herts Plate Final, Aylesbury Dux take on Hertfordshire Warriors, who will be hoping to make their familiarity with the Francis Bacon gym count. The Dux however, aided by a couple of players who were missing in their tough semi final victory over Jacks, will have other ideas.

 

Table Official Conduct

Following an incident involving a Table Official at an HPL game in January, please can all clubs ensure that there Table Officials are aware of the following:

Clubs are reminded that the Table Officials they employ to officiate their games must be qualified, objective, impartial and courteous to their fellow officials, players and spectators alike.  In particular they should refrain from publicly expressing any criticism of fellow Table Officials, Referees and Umpires.  Any such incident may result in disciplinary action.

 

Committee Members

As mentioned in the last bulletins (two weeks ago) Jim has left the country for a couple of months, Sara has kindly volunteered to be the main contact for any queries during this period, any queries should still be e-mailed to secretary@hertsbasketball.co.uk.  Unfortunately, Peter Hill has also had to step down from his role on the committee due to other commitments, the committee wish to thank Peter for his help during the season.

 

With two committee members down, and two other positions vacant from the AGM covered by other committee members, the membership of the committee is at a dangerously low level.  To help us get through to the AGM in the summer, the committee have co-opted two new members: Tony Marmo (Hertfordshire Schools Competition Manager and Coach of Hertfordshire Warriors) will be a Schools representative and Emma Trimbee (Table Official) will be an Individual Member.

 

Disciplinary Matters

a)    Paul Robson (Luton Fliers) was disqualified from the Aylesbury Dux v Luton Fliers 1 game on Sunday 8th February 2009.  An automatic 1 match was served on Sunday 22nd February 2009.  A disciplinary committee decided that no further action will be taken for this offence, however Luton to be warned over their players future conduct.

 

b)    Luke Atkinson (Stevenage Gators) was disqualified from the Aylesbury Dux v Stevenage Gators game on Sunday 22nd February 2009.  An automatic 1 match ban to be served at Gators next game.  A disciplinary committee decided that no further action will be taken for this offence.
